Life in the Desert ... Introduction ... What are deserts?
In the deserts, life is tough. The sun beats down for most of the year, baking the parched desert soil or sand (1). Moisture is hard to find and warmth is sometimes an enemy rather than a friend. Adaptation is a keyword for desert life. Animals have adapted to survive with little water. Plants have adapted to a life of continual sun and a water supply that can drench them one minute and be gone the next.
