Animals in danger

Over a thousand species of animals are classified as endangered - and there are many more that are seriously threatened with extinction.
Nature-Explorer.net is your Internet guide to the world of nature. Browse through the natural world from Rainforests to Deserts. Find out facts about animals from Komodo dragons to butterflies, from graceful dolphins to huge dinosaurs. All text and graphics are copyrighted by REMedia, or by third parties who are acknowledged within this web site.
This NatureExplorer guide looks at endangered and threatened species. It discusses the pressures on individual animals and also considers the wider problem of habitat destruction, which is responsible for the reduction in numbers of many different species. We haven’t included full information on every endangered species – there are over 1,000 listed in the 1994 US Fish and Wildlife Service list alone. Instead, the 100 or so animals discussed in detail in this volume are examples of different kinds of endangerment, although most have a common thread – mankind.

We hope you enjoy using this guide. Animals are only in danger because of the ignorance of our own species, and by learning more about their plight you will be able to help save them for future generations to appreciate.
